Dear Parents/Guardians & Students,
I enthusiastically welcome you to the start of the South Boston Catholic Academy 2009-2010 school year. I am truly honored to be looking forward to an exciting year of growth academically, spiritually and socially with you and your children and am very grateful for the opportunity to be part of this special first year as a wonderful new school.
I am enclosing the September school calendar to remind you of upcoming events during the month of September. We would encourage as many parents and family members to attend the opening Mass on Wednesday, September 9 at 9AM at St. Brigid Church. His Eminence, Seán Cardinal O’Malley, OFM, Cap will be celebrant for this Mass. Although the K1 and Pre-school students will not be in session, we welcome all students and parents to join us for this special visit by the Cardinal. In addition, during the month of September we invite all of you to join us for the Parent Meeting and Open House, as well as a family cookout.
We are blessed with a wonderfully talented faculty and staff. We proudly welcome many returning teachers from both Gate of Heaven School and St. Brigid School, as well some new faculty members. A complete directory of faculty and staff is enclosed with this mailing. Our middle school, Grades 6, 7 & 8 will follow a departmentalized model and experience the expertise of all three middle school teachers. Grades 4 & 5 will follow a similar model. K2 through Grade 2 will participate in the Literacy Collaborative Program sponsored by Lesley University this year. Our faculty and staff are eager to begin this new year with our South Boston Catholic Academy community.
Early dismissal time for the school year, beginning with the first day of school, will be at 12Noon. Please be mindful that full days begin on Wednesday, Sept. 9th. Lunches will not be provided during this first week. There will be no milk provided on Wednesday, Sept. 9 through Friday, September 11. We will begin serving milk on Monday, Sept. 14 and we will send home order forms in our communication folder on Sept. 9th for pizza and sandwiches to be provided starting on Monday, Sept. 14th as well.
It has been a very busy summer here at South Boston Catholic Academy and I am confident that we are prepared for a very productive school year full of challenge, creativity and learning with over 360 students currently enrolled.
Please do not hesitate to call me with any concerns or questions as you prepare your children for the school year ahead. I have truly missed my daily interaction with the students and eagerly look forward to seeing both students and parents on September 8th.
