Thanks to everyone who attended the Annual Art Show. Your support means a lot to the children who were so excited to show their hard work.  The work is available on line at Artsonia for your viewing pleasure.

Something is a little fishy is the art room this week.  Salmon have been swimming upstream in grades K2 and 1. Beautiful seahorses are being painted in pinks in oranges in grade 4 while students are practicing their shading skills on sea serpents in grades 5 and 6.  In grade 8 a little plastic, some ink and a heat gun are the perfect tools to create Chihuly-like glass.

It is hard to believe that there is only a month and a half left of the school year. It goes by so quickly…. with that being said, we still have a lot of work to do!   We began our Money chapter yesterday and we have discussed the value and skip counting of pennies, nickels and dimes. By the end of this week, we will cover quarters as well.  Please practice counting money at home – every little bit helps.   Before school extra help will be again this Thursday at 7:40.

In grade 4 students constructed a dome large enough for the entire class to enter. Yes, we do have photographs to prove it! The large domes were too big to display so we passed them on to the pre-school for playtime before disposal.

• 4    Poetry and illustrations durring visiting poet day – In honor of National Poetry Month local poets, Dorothy Morris and Susan Mahan, led the 4th grade class in a reading and poetry writing class.  Students then illustrated the poems in art class. Lilah Maher, Sean Loftus and Emma Brooks illustrated poems were chosen for display at the South Boston Public Library for the month of April. Fourth grade students will be receiving a chapbook containing all the illustrated poems from that project.

The art show will also be viewable during the morning on Grandparent’s Day, May 3.  For those who can’t make the physical show, please visit the Artsonia website where is will be displayed sometime next week. Writer’s Workshop is going strong.  The children are anxious to begin the activity each morning, and are quick to remind me if we miss a day.  They amaze me with their abilities!  We’ll be bringing some of the stories home soon.

Financial Update.   The 2^nd installment from the HSA was presented to Father Casey to bring the total to $16K.  This leaves a balance of $24K.  There is $4746 in the spirit fund.  The goal is to raise the $24K from the final two fundraisers for the year.

Walk a thon – May 24^th – In Memory of Father Sheehan.  5% of the proceeds will go to St James Society in honor of Father Sheehan.

• Grade 4, 5,6  parents  will be asked to volunteer for this event.

Home and School Association Volunteers

• The office of President and Vice President are still open for the 2 year term beginning September 2012.   Michelle Hynes has agreed to stay on as President for another 2 year term if needed.
• 2013 Walk-a-thon  – Kelly Conroy will be stepping down as Chair for the Walk-a-thon after this year’s event.  Anyone interested in taking on this role?
• Golf Tournament – We are also looking for a volunteer(s) to Chair or Co-Chair the Golf Tournament in 2013.

Catholic School Office Visit Update

• The notes from the meeting and Mr. Feigler’s presentation will be distributed in the weekly newsletter.   Please take the time to review both.   
  • Parent Advisory Board/School Board was discussed during the meeting with Mr Feigler.  Many parents expressed interest in learning more about these boards and when and if they will be implemented at SBCA.

The students of South Boston Catholic Academy would like to thank you in advance for your generosity!

 This our “Four Seasons House”.  K1B had a group discussion about the season of spring.  We decided that spring would be best represented by flowers, butterflies, slugs, lady bugs, clouds and birds.  The boys and girls loved coloring the pictures and cutting them out independently.
