Wednesday, December 14th, at a breakfast held at the Pastoral Center in Braintree, Cardinal Sean O’Malley of the Archdiocese of Boston inducted the second class of Peter S. Lynch Scholars to the Inner City Scholarship Fund of Boston. John Barnes and Caitlin Fitzgerald from South Boston Catholic Academy were 2 of approximately 100 students from across the Greater Boston area that were selected for this program.
Cardinal O’Malley was accompanied by Mr. Lynch; Mike Reardon, Executive Director of the Catholic Schools Foundation; Mary Grassa O’Neill, Superintendent of Boston’s Catholic Schools; and Jack Regan, President of the Catholic Schools Foundation Board of Trustees.
Mr. Lynch, known for his successful career as a money manager at Fidelity Investments, is a longtime supporter of Boston’s Catholic Schools and serves as chairman emeritus for the Catholic Schools Foundation. In his honor, The Foundation has named students at each of their funded Catholic elementary schools to hold the honor of being a Peter Lynch scholar. The distinction pays tribute to Mr. Lynch’s commitment to Catholic education in Boston.
In addition, winners of the Annual CSF Christmas Card Contest were acknowledged for their artwork.
The Catholic Schools Foundation distributed nearly 5,000 scholarships last school year, totaling more than $6 million dollars in tuition support.
