Grade 2B is really enjoying Catholic School Week.  On Tuesday they met their Grade 6B buddies.  The sixth graders read to the second graders. 

Wednesday was pajama day.  The children had a very comfortable day.  In the afternoon Grade 6B came again.  Together 6B and 2B made a unity quilt.

Tomorrow the children are looking forward to the volleyball game.

I want to thank the Catholic School Week Committee for their hard work in planning all the activities.  Also thank you to Ms. Richardson and the children of 6B.

On Friday, November 18 the class will have a review spelling test on the hi frequency words they have been learning.  The list will be in their homework folders.

I hope you enjoyed the weekend.  We really can be thankful for the beautiful fall weather.

The children started centers last week.   They settled in very nicely.

This week in Religion the class will be learning about the seven sacraments.  The children will learn why leaves change colors in science.   In our “read alouds’ we will be discussing character traits as we discuss some Strega Nona books by Tomie dePaola.  The class will also learn about Italy where the stories take place.  October is National Italian Heritage Month.

We will begin centers this week.  The class will have their first vocabulary test on Thursday.  They will be bringing their vocabulary notebooks home each night to study.  The words come from the “poem of the week” .

We will be learning about Christopher Columbus as we compare the world in 1492 with the world in 2011.  The children will learn the names of the 7 continents and will be able to locate them on a map.

The class will be listening to books by William Steig.  As they listen to the stories they will learn how authors use  a rich vocabulary to make their stories come alive.

In Religion the children will learn about the 7 sacraments.

Please remember the sign your child’s assignment notebook each night and their spelling test notebook on Mondays.

The children have completed their first  full week of school and are adjusting to the new routines in grade 2. 

The children will be bringing home their reading log this week.  As stated in the open house handout  the children should be reading for 2o minutes, four nights a week.  Your child can fill out the date and title of the book.   Parents will fill in the time read and initial. 

Please remember to check your child’s assignment notebook  for homework and the weekly spelling list and sign it each day.

NOTE – There is no school for students on Friday, September 23.  Teachers will be attending a workshop on curriculum mapping.

                  The spelling test will be on Thursday, September 22.

I was so excited to meet my new class.  They are a great group of children.  The first day went very well.  All the children were eager to see their friends and begin a new year.

Today was the first full day.   Again, the children did well, in spite of the rain and no outdoor recess.  A lot of important notices were sent home in the Wednesday Communication Folder.  The children were very cooperative and helpful giving out all those notices.

Tomorrow ( Thursday, September 8) we will be going to Mass to celebrate the opening of the school year.  All are welcome to attend with the children.  September 8 is also the Blessed Mother’s birthday.  

Gym – every child’s favorite subject – starts tomorrow also.  The children should wear their gym uniform and sneakers.

I m looking forward to working with you and your children this year.  I’ll see you at open house at 6:30 Tuesday, September 13.
