The Administration, Faculty, and Staff of South Boston Catholic Academy have prepared well to welcome your children back to school for a quality Catholic education, while taking every precaution to protect the health and well-being of every student, their family and their teacher.

Important Reminders:

Numbered Doors

Large green numbers at each of the school’s 7 entrances.   All classes have been assigned a Door # to enter.  You should have received that number already.  Please contact your teacher if you are unsure.

School Grounds and Playground

Only students are allowed on school grounds and in the playground.  Only children enrolled at SBCA are allowed in the playground from 7:00 a.m. onward.

Masks are mandatory for all students, faculty and staff of the school. Children should be wearing masks as they come into the playground and into the school building.   All parents dropping off and picking up their child should be wearing a mask and should practice social distancing while around the school.  Your cooperation with this rule is greatly appreciated.

School Building Visits

Parents are asked not to come to visit the school building unless it is an emergency.  If you need to come to the Office during school hours, please call ahead. We ask that you enter through door #1 (East Broadway entrance) and seek assistance at the Front Office.  No Parents will be allowed beyond the front office of the school.  Only one person at a time in the vestibule and we ask that you observe social distancing requirements and use hand sanitizer as you enter.

Drop off and Pick up

We encourage all families, if possible, to walk to school. This would be important during the first weeks of school as we get use to the new protocols in place during these challenging times.  Your cooperation and patience are required so that everyone remains safe and we have smooth operations, especially in the morning hours.  If you need to drive to the school, please utilize the drop off plan.   The teachers and staff of the school will assist your child out of your car and into the school.  Please do not park, or double park – around the school building at any time during drop off and pickup.  If you need to park – please park at least a block away from the school.  The Boston Police have requested that there be no double parking on Broadway at any time. They will be ticketing.  This is for the safety of children and the morning traffic flow.  Requirements during COVID-19 suggest that there be no congregating at drop off and pick up around the school.

School Cleaning

As has been mentioned in previous communications, South Boston Catholic Academy has contracted with a professional cleaning company, Sanitrol Building Maintenance Corporation.  Sanitrol is a local professional cleaning company that specializes in the cleaning of daycare centers, preschools and many Catholic Elementary and High Schools around the Boston area.  To ensure quality control – Sanitrol employs site supervisors as well as area managers who will inspect our school weekly.   This company will be on the premises every day from 6:30AM until 3:30PM while school is in session.  In addition to their presence daily, they will expertly clean the school every evening and deep clean the classrooms on the weekends.  Continuous cleaning during the day will be focused on high impact areas (doorknobs, bathrooms, hallways, entrances and exits, etc).  In the evening all classrooms will be professionally cleaned.

Classroom health and safety

The health and safety of every child during this time of pandemic is of utmost importance to our faculty and staff.   Teachers have been trained on the importance of monitoring the cleanliness of the classroom and providing a healthy environment.   Air circulation in classrooms will be a priority.  Windows will remain open during these warm days of August and September.  Each classroom has HEPA certified Air Purifiers, as well as fans that will help circulate and clean the air.  Each classroom is equipped with hand sanitizer, additional masks, gloves, and sanitizing wipes.   The cleaning company will be assisting faculty throughout the day when needed.   Social distancing will be monitored by the teacher and all students will be required to wear masks.  Lunch will be held in the classrooms each day.  The health and safety of your children while in the classroom setting is of utmost importance as we try, during these challenging times, to bring some normalcy to the classroom environment while providing a quality education.

New Playground Area

We are excited about our new play area.  Although we will not be able to utilize its full potential over the next few months due to COVID-19 restrictions, your children will be able to enjoy the new area.   We will have mask breaks, socially distancing activities and outdoor classes when the weather permits.   The new picnic tables will be available to some classes for lunch and educational projects.

We are so happy that we have been able to open our school for your child’s education.

We have been working hard all summer to plan for a safe opening of school and to implement best practices to mitigate the risks associated with COVID-19. Our classrooms have been modified to increase social distancing, signage has been installed throughout the building to guide students, and our schedule has been modified to allow for more time for mask breaks, hand washing, and opportunities to access outdoor learning spaces. A stronger emphasis will be placed on social emotional learning as well.

We are proud of our beautiful school and have high expectations for each and every student.  Our students are kind, compassionate, and inquisitive.  Together, with our dedicated faculty and staff, we strive to make connections with students to help them feel valued, accepted, and safe.  Faith, Family, and Academic Excellence is what drives everything we do. Developing responsible citizens and preparing for tomorrow’s opportunities will continue to guide our mission to provide a rigorous and joyful school environment.

Partnering with families will be crucial this year as we face many obstacles due to the global pandemic.  We appreciate your support, your patience and cooperation as you work with students at home to practice safety protocols such as wearing a mask and washing hands. We have asked our teachers to share videos and welcome letters in hopes to ease any anxiety that children may have. I am confident that the staff at SBCA will do everything in their power to transition students back to school safely.

Due to our commitment to providing a safe environment we are a fully onsite learning school. In the event that the State would close due to COVID-19 we would go fully remote for grades K2-6. Our team is working on a robust plan to ensure that all staff are ready and prepared to offer this option if the State mandates remote learning for all schools.

We are grateful to our reentry team for their continued feedback and counsel as we move forward.   Please know that we have planned long and hard for this re-opening and are confident that our school building is ready, and our faculty and staff is prepared and very excited about welcoming your child.  Please know of our gratitude for all of you do for our school—it is greatly appreciated.
