Welcome to 2A!
Students in 2A have quickly become adjusted to second grade! Everyone is doing really well and have become very comfortable!
We are studying our 10′s and 1′s in math and about to move on to counting money! We have played lots of math games to reinforce simple addition and subtraction and to also help build community!
In reading and writing we have begun our centers. It’s going to take some adjustments on the students’ part in order for work to be complete. But we are all working hard to help make the changes positive!
I’m looking forward to celebrating the sacraments with your children. If you haven’t already, please choose a parish and send in the paperwork, as we are already prepping for the sacraments. Thanks so much and I really look forward to working with you and your child this year!
Ms. Johnson
We are starting our third week of art. Grade 1 has been learning about line and color with their leaf rubbings and watercolor leaf resists. Grade two just completed some outstanding sunflower collages inspired by Vincent Van Gogh. Grade 3 has been thinking like artists by looking for similarities and differences in their families and depicting them as flowers in a garden. In grade 4 we are using u’s and v’s to create life-like trees! Grade 5 used contour lines to draw their shoes and will be adding watercolor later this week. Grade 6 is completing their Surrealism pictures after viewing Salvadore Dali and Rene Magritte. Grade 7 did wonderful line drawings of their backpacks and then used warm and cool colors to finish them off. Last, but definitely not least, grade 8 is using 1 point perspective to design their rooms.
Our new sink is in the process of being installed and we look forward to putting more art work on Artsonia.com where SBCA is now the 2nd ranked school in all of Massachusetts! Please visit the site and and leave comments and start fanclubs for your children. Its a great way to share their work with the whole world.
Students in 3B will be having their first math test of the year on Wednesday, September 30th. Students will be taking a social studies quiz on Thursday, October 1st.
This week, students started reading guided reading books. The titles chosen were Socks by Beverly Cleary, Dolphins at Daybreak by Mary Pope Osborne, and The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl.
Also, we are reading the first book of the Harry Potter series as a read aloud. Students have been very interested in the book. A field trip to the Museum of Science Harry Potter exhibit may be in the future!
Please check back here for periodic updates on what is happening in Grade 3!
Thanks!

Thanks to students, faculty and parents for a great start to a new year. Please be sure to look for the communication folder every Wednesday. We will make every effort to have the majority of notices come home in the folder.
